Grill Companion Mobile App
Pit Boss
Pit Boss had an Android app underway but it was not ready for the level of polish their customers expected. We joined the project to close the gap—shipping missing screens, resolving a long backlog of defects, and building the recipe feature that became a centerpiece of the product.

The challenge
The app was only partially implemented when we started. Core flows were incomplete, recipe content had no dedicated experience on Android, and accumulated bugs made everyday tasks unreliable—navigation edge cases, inconsistent state after backgrounding, and crashes during media-heavy screens eroded trust with grill owners who expected the app to work every time they fired up a cook.
Our approach
We audited the existing codebase, prioritized defects by user impact, and shipped a focused set of production screens to round out the app. The recipe feature was designed and built end to end: browsable catalogs, detail views, and save-and-follow flows tied to Pit Boss’s content. Alongside feature work, we hardened lifecycle handling, tightened error boundaries around network calls, and cleaned up legacy code paths that were triggering repeat crashes.
Results
Pit Boss launched with a complete recipe experience on Android, a fuller screen set for owners in the field, and a materially more stable app. Support tickets tied to crashes and broken flows dropped sharply, and the team could move forward on roadmap work instead of firefighting production issues.
